Soon Microsoft Office will, by default, block macros from running that originate from the internet. At last!

This has been something that Microsoft has dragged it’s feet over for years. It was an open door just waiting to be exploited by hackers on everyone’s computer running Office – and because so many people do run Microsoft Office it was worthwhile for the hackers to give it go. And of course it is easy to get the infected Word document to you – email it and call it “tax refund”!
There are steps that can be taken to close the security hole – see the slide above from my Email Security Seminar – but now by default macros will not run.
Macros will still run if needed – but this is a positive step for everyone’s cyber security.
