There was a lot of publicity – including the regular use in iPhone advertising – of Apple’s new stance on privacy.
Apple has imposed new rules on vendors of iOS (and iPadOS) through its “walled garden” App Store that enhances our privacy. App Tracking Transparency (ATT) is a cornerstone of this new policy. Hear what Tim Cook (Apple’s CEO) has to say about it below.
However research (Kollnig et al., 2022) shows that ATT works as promoted, which is good, however it also shows that large companies such as Facebook and Google could exploit loopholes and end up collecting even more information about us.
The abstract of the paper gives an outline of the issues and some extra explanation on what data Apple collects that is exempt from ATT.
