It is not space or flying cars this week but that other mainstay of entertainment here at Smart Thinking – artificial intelligence.

I ran an AI story last week weekend (part of my “weekend read” project) – as Scott Adams started running this story arc on Dilbert.com.

Scott Adams and Dilbert are just having fun with the AI issue – but there are many big themes that need to be thought about when it comes to how AI will impact on our society.

Several of these big themes were discussed by Professor Stuart Russell, founder of the Centre for Human-Compatible Artificial Intelligence, at the University of California, Berkeley in the 2021 BBC Reith Lectures. I listened to the lectures and they were excellent – when you are reading this they may still be available on BBC Sounds.
