The idea of LinkedIn is to enable communications and trust between its users – something the threat actors soon exploited. Fake profiles, offering fake jobs but installing real malware, stealing credentials and defrauding users.
Now LinkedIn has introduced several new measures to combat fake identities and the malicious exploitation of the platform. These include:
- Displaying that work phone number and emails are verified and when the account was created.
- Using AI to actively hunt down fake profiles.
- Warning when user wants to take the communications outside LinkedIn – this is an action that can lead to the installation of malware.
