It is obvious that every computer – including Macs – need the best anti-virus you can afford and you need to be able check that your team do not turn it off!
However the threat actors know you have invested in great anti-virus software so they work to get around it and that is not as difficult as you would think. Here is an example from SANS Internet Storm using a programming language taught in schools and some straightforward script to create stealthy ransomware:

Now you need a ransomware resilient back-up and some staff training to spot that ransomware that evaded your anti-virus detection.
