If you get a text from The Metropolitan Police it may not be scam

It will be worth checking out the text carefully as the Met is going to text about 70,000 victims of banking fraud, having arrested an East Londoner who is accused of running an international phone fraud:

Police to text 70,000 victims in UK’s biggest anti-fraud operation – BBC News

The police recognise that their message may appear to be a scam, but they have little choice as they only have the victim’s phone numbers and no other means of identifying them – so they have outlined what their message will be:

  • It will be sent on either the 24 or 25 November
  • It will only have a link to the Action Fraud site

Obviously there will be threat actors gearing up as I write this to take advantage of this situation – so care is still needed.
