Water company leaks customer data

South Staffordshire PLC, the parent company of South Staffs Water and Cambridge Water, is warning that customer bank details may have been stolen by cyber criminals. This information and other customer details taken during the data breach may now be on the Dark Web.

It has started informing the customers involved, although the firm has not confirmed how many of its 1.7 million customers have been affected.

The National Crime Agency is involved in the ongoing investigation.

South Staffs Water and Cambridge Water are reassuring customers that their water supply quality is safe from tampering with by the hackers although the hackers are claiming they do have access to the infrastructure and the water supply.
