I have discussed this with a number of other cyber security professionals and none of us can see how it would be effective at stopping children accessing unsuitable content. The immediate problems are:

  • Children will lie about their age, and misuse parent’s credit cards – how many under-age users of other social media platforms are there?
  • It will be easy to google the work around.
  • It creates a really juicy honey pot of personal information that every hacker will try and break into. Again; let’s hope the security employed by the contractor, who submitted the lowest bid to run the service, is the best money can buy!
