Apple has issued an emergency security patch for older iPhone to fix a vulnerability that is being actively exploited.
Crooks are already exploiting this bug in old iPhones • The Register
The release is iOS 12.5.7 and the older devices impacted are:
- iPhone 5s
- iPhone 6
- iPhone 6 Plus
- iPad Air
- iPad mini 2
- iPad mini 3
- sixth-generation iPod touch
We are still regularly using at least two of the impacted devices – I was able to check this in our Cyber Security Master Document and we got them patched.
iOS 15 and 16 also got patches to fix this flaw.

My advice: Either you or your IT support need to check whether these issues impact your systems. You need to have a master document that details your systems, hardware, software, online, networks, back-ups, suppliers etc – so when cyber security (or operational) issues arise you and your support teams can quickly check if you are affected. From there you can take fast, effective action.
