The surveillance and monitoring laws are about to change

According to the Biometrics and Surveillance Camera Commissioner Prof Fraser Sampson the proposed changes in the law will be diluting the privacy and use protection that his organisation currently offers but which he thinks is currently inadequate.

The proposed law – the Data Protection and Digital Information Bill – with abolish the professor’s role, streamline and simplify the system, and move current responsibilities to other departments and organisations.

At the moment there is no clear framework how the use of such technologies as automatic number plate recognition (ANPR), drones and body cams will overseen.
