Edge and VPN

I am big on the using VPNs as a step in good cyber security – catch up on why a VPN is an essential tool for any organisation:

Do you have a “work from anywhere” policy? We’ll start with a VPN. – CyberAwake

I am away working at the moment and connected to the hotel WiFi and using my VPN service to connect me to the internet as I write this.

Now Microsoft’s Edge VPN is abut to be released:

Microsoft Edge’s built-in VPN support is around the corner (bleepingcomputer.com)

It is not quite the same as connecting to your own VPN service but the security functionality will be similar. Using Cloudflare technology – a company that protects websites attack by routing the traffic through their own servers and blocking malicious traffic from reaching the target site – your Edge internet communications will be routed through Cloudflare where it will be encrypted and protected from snooping.

However ‘Edge Secure Network’ will not be a replacement for the traditional point-to-point secure tunnel VPN but an additional security tool for user security.
