…just slow down.
I often use the example of a successful social engineering/phishing email as one that arrives when you are under work pressure or just before before you want to leave for the weekend. Both are periods when the threat actors know your guard will be down – they are hoping you will just rush through their malicious email and giveaway those valuable Microsoft credentials or open that infected PDF marked “Urgent Order Request”.
Here is research by Professor Yaniv Hanoch and Professor Nicholas J. Kelley, both from the University of Southampton, supporting the fact that slowing down is a great way to improve your cyber security defences:
