My i7 laptop when working hard generates a lot of heat. To keep the processor and the other components cool, the all metal case is part of the cooling system and consequently it soon warms up when I am using the computer. Under some usage, it warms up so much that it is not possible to use the laptop on my lap – it is too hot.
These heat issues get multiplied in data centres with their large arrays of computers. Innovative ways of dealing with this heat have been tried, building the data centres above the artic circle and dropping them in the sea are two unusual cooling options.
Here is another even more unusual option – use the excess energy to heat a swimming pool:

So rather than me thinking that my computer is getting hot, I should consider it is heating my office!
