I have had various discussions with various clients about the use of WhatsApp. They like it as it is often already used by their people, works on Android and iPhones and they point me to the security WhatsApp advertises.
I then point out that there is no accountability and Microsoft Teams, which they already pay for, is used by their people, truly cross-platform as it works on their phones and laptops, is secure and accountable.

This NHS Lanarkshire breach of patient confidentiality and the UKGDPR laws appears to have arisen because of project creep on the use of WhatsApp between a specific group of employees.
Your takeaway from this should be
Make sure your people know what the approved channels are for exchanging sensitive information both internally and externally and with third parties. You need a policy.
