Because It’s Friday – Break a Leg

This is not a theatre story but a space story. NASA’s first commercial co-operation Moon lander, landed on the Moon this week, but not really as planned.

The Odysseus, built by Intuitive Machines, to carry six NASA experiments to the Moon, hit too hard, skidded to halt and boke one of the landing legs. The spacecraft then, of course, toppled over.

Eric Berger has the full story over on Ars Technica – including the photo above, taken just as the lander toppled over.

The good news is that the experiments onboard were not damaged and have returned useful data to NASA, despite the crash. Obviously a well design space probe – well done Intuitive Machines.

A good news story to finish the week with.

Have a good weekend.
