Today’s “Because It’s Friday” is about a coincidence.
This week I picked up a science fiction book from the ’70s this week, In Our Hands, the Stars by Harry Harrison. The very basic plot is that a scientist and the Danish government turn a submarine into a spacecraft. Sounds plausible!
So I was surprised when this video came up in my YouTube feed:
I am not sure if submarines carry parachutes – it is probably classified if they do.
Now the sceptical among you – and let’s accept the fact that if you read this blog, you will be sceptical – will say YouTube was tipped off by Google as to my reading habits. Except I bought the paperback in a secondhand book shop in Brighton.
Enjoy the video and if you like classic sci-fi with echoes of the Cold War throughout, then give In Our Hands the Stars a read.
