Encryption is important

I am an advocate of using encryption to improve the cyber security posture of our clients. This week I submitted a “draft for discussion” IT and Cyber Security Audit report to a client in which there are several recommendations to use encryption to improve their cyber security stance.

Is encryption secure. I have to say yes, and Bruce Schneier agrees:

No, The Chinese Have Not Broken Modern Encryption Systems with a Quantum Computer – Schneier on Security

There is always talk of how encryption can be, could be, possibly be broken – quantum computing figures highly in this speculation. But until it has been proven to broken, then use it.

Another reason to use it, is that politicians dislike us to use encryption, even though they readily use it themselves. Yes, WhatsApp is encrypted but as we have seen many times in public enquiries the people we trust in the highest offices in the land, cannot operate the app or their phones correctly and messages constantly get “lost”.
