The company has already issued a statement saying “there is no evidence any customer data had been stolen”. Of course they did.

It is much better to say “our experts are investigating the attack and we will report if any of your data has been compromised as soon as they report to us.” I expect the Co-op, Marks and Spencer, many councils, NHS Trusts and many other organisation hit by a cyber attack had wished they had used my words in their early press releases.
