I was planning to write about the Virgin Orbit launch, from Cornwall, of an air launched rocket putting satellites into orbit. However although the separation and power up from the 747 jet was successful the rocket had issues and the payloads did not make orbit. There is a good video from Scott Manley at the bottom of this post explaining what happened.
We’ll cover that story when they try again.
So I had to find a rocket story for today and I came across this one, looking at the rumours from the 1967 testing of Apollo 4, that the Saturn V rocket was so loud, that the acoustic energy was enough to melt concrete. It wasn’t but read on:
