Two Russia Stories

The first article is about a Russian threat group – NoName057(16) – which has claimed it launched a number of DDoS attacks again UK local government websites:

The affected councils have reported that the functionality of their websites suffered some access problems, but things are running fine now. The National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) has been advising them. Many of the councils were still able to provide services during the incidents by switching to telephone support instead of online.

Your Takeaway

Your website may not suffer a DDoS attacker, but whatever incident you suffer you should have a business continuity and an incident response plan. These do not need to be complicated, just effective.

How much money?

A Russian court has fined Google for “restricting Russian state media channels on YouTube”. The fine is more money than is in the world!

How much? Two undecillion roubles – a two followed by 36 zeroes. Even one of the world’s richest companies will struggle to pay that!
