When sending a group email out, but you do not want the group to know who the individuals are – use the bcc option. We all know this, and we all know of instances where it has not been used and the identities of all the other recipients have been revealed. Just like the Metropolitain Police have just done:

In serious cases this is an incident that should be referred to the Information Commissioner’s Office – the Met have had to do this.

If the email group is sensitive then find a better way to send this type of email. Either send each email individually or adapt something like MailChimp to manage it for you.
If nothing else just think twice before hitting send!
