The money involved in ransomware

Research has shown that payments to threat actors, demanded by ransomware, has dropped, but the double action of stealing the data and threatening exposure and encrypting that data at source is increasing:

This next story wasn’t really surprising, that businesses who have been hit by ransomware and have incurred costs, than pass these onto their clients. Data breaches are expensive and adds to a business’s costs and so add to the cost of production – investors still want the profits, hence prices go up. Economics 101.
