A coffee and a doughnut as compensation
At least this time it appears the people will be getting compensation:

Tim Hortons is a popular fast food restaurant in Canada, known for it’s coffee and now for the amount of personal information it took from the users of it’s app.
To quote the article from The Record:
Daniel Therrien, Privacy Commissioner of Canada, said Tim Hortons “clearly crossed the line” because it amassed “a huge amount of highly sensitive information about its customers.”
“Following people’s movements every few minutes of every day was clearly an inappropriate form of surveillance. This case once again highlights the harms that can result from poorly designed technologies as well as the need for strong privacy laws to protect the rights of Canadians,” Therrien said.

The company has been forced to delete inappropriate data it had collected, to limit the data it collects in the future and will have to produce a privacy policy which customers must be made aware.
