Qatari World Cup apps

There is no denying the fact that the compulsory Qatari World Cup apps, Ehteraz, a Covid-19 tracker from the Qatari Ministry of Public Health, and Hayya from the Qatari Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy for the World Cup, will be collecting a lot of information on everyone attending. This includes information on any phone calls made.

Now Germany, France and Norway are issuing warning about the apps – and offering advice on how to protect yourself from them.

Germany says nein to Qatari World Cup spyware, err, apps • The Register

It looks like a “burner phone” will be a must have accessory for international sporting events if they continue to be hosted in countries where privacy and freedom have caveats attached to them.

I hate having to suggest this but due to FIFA not taking the Qatari intolerance of LGBTQI+ lifestyles into account when awarding the World Cup, I think you should remove Grindr or any other similar apps from your phone before going, in light of the privacy issues with Ehteraz and Hayya.
