I recently wrote a mini-series of articles looking at various aspects of ransomware and what you need to do about it.
Ransomware – A Primer – Smart Thinking Solutions
That series mainly concentrated on encryption ransomware but the cyber gangs are also turning to extortion ransomware – so I wrote about that here:
Extortion Ransomware – Smart Thinking Solutions
But did not not write about this type of ransomware – imaginary ransomware!
Fake ransomware gang targets U.S. orgs with empty data leak threats (bleepingcomputer.com)
Your take away from this is that you need good monitoring, logging and accountability as well as good cyber security for your information, so if someone says they have hacked you, you can check to see if it is true!
