Follow a link in haste…

Having read Ben’s article on Phishing Email, this morning, before posting it to Smart Thinking as part of my Back-to-Basics Email Phishing Primer, I was reminded of a Bruce Schneier article and associated research paper I read last week – looking at how anyone can end up following a misleading URL.

Hyperlink Hijacking: Exploiting Erroneous URL Links to Phantom Domains | Proceedings of the ACM on Web Conference 2024

This research clearly shows that malicious URLs are a real issue and the way these normally get to you is via a phishing email.
