In case you missed the memo passwords are important. Storing them in plain text where threat actors can eventually get access to them is a really bad thing.

It is even worse if those passwords are associated with other sensitive information, to quote Ionut Ilascu, (such as) “emails, names, passwords, phone numbers, and billing information with bank details”.
If you are storing this type of sensitive information in an online database then the minimum cyber security your web developer, IT team or cyber security support need to apply to these valuable assets is a cryptographic hash.
