Escobar mobile malware targets 190 banking and financial apps, steals 2FA codes | TechRepublic
A version of this malicious software was found in circulation cloaked as McAfee software.
This software is being offered for rent on the Dark Web so it could be used by multiple hackers who do not have the skills needed to develop such sophisticated code but do have the skills and infrastructure to run email phishing campaigns and other distribution methods to get this trojan onto your devices.
Three quick takeaways from this:
- Never download and install software for anywhere EXCEPT trusted app stores and repositories.
- If the offer looks too good to be true – then it is probably a scam trying to bait you into something you probably should not do.
- An understanding about how to recognise and deal with malicious emails, links, web pages and social engineering is essential.
