YOU WILL NOT PAY THAT RANSOMWARE DEMAND!

Australia has been in the cyber security headlines recently with a couple of high-profile hacks that has seriously impacted millions of citizens:

Now it is being reported that the Australian government is considering bringing in legislation to prevent organisations legally paying ransomware demands, in an attempt to disrupt the threat actor’s business model and make Australian organisation less attractive targets:

This works if you are “targeted” but if you are collateral damage you still cannot pay. Let’s hope all Australian organisations have their protection in place.

The National Cyber Security Centre and the Information Commissioner’s Office also wants UK organisations not to pay for the same reasons.
