Ransomware – If the government is not taking it seriously you should…

I will start with this report from The Record about the ransomware risk in the UK:

UK government risking ‘catastrophic ransomware attack at any moment,’ parliamentary report warns (therecord.media)

If you have now read that, then you should be taking responsibility for your organisation’s readiness for a ransomware or other cyber incident. (It could be an insider issue similar to this one – Cloud engineer gets 2 years for wiping ex-employer’s code repos (bleepingcomputer.com).)

Ransomware Help

I have written a short series about ransomware, in which I tried to give a briefing for organisation decision makers to help them get to grips with this type of cyber-attack – however the broad points made can just as easily be applied to any cyber incident. Here is a link to my Ransomware Primer:

If you are not sure where to start then this series will help you – it will take no more than two cups of tea or coffee to read!

From there if you need more help – then please get in contact.

If you do not contact Smart Thinking please do something to improve your cyber security defences because the UK Government will not do anything for you – there are no votes in it.

There is one useful UK Government organisation that will also give you advice on ransomware and other cyber security related issues – the National Cyber Security Centre. If you have the under-pinning knowlege and the time it is an excellent resource to get you started.
